Gibson To Defend 60 Meter Hurdle Title At NCAA Division III Indoor Championships

Lincoln, NE --- Junior Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) has been chosen to compete in the 60 meter hurdles at the Division III Indoor National Track & Field Championships as announced by the NCAA selection committee.

Gibson, who put up the second fastest time in Division III just two weeks ago at the Open New England Championships, has been rewarded as the second overall seed. He sprinted to the sixth-best 60 meter hurdles split in Division III history (7.99) with this runner-up performance in helping pace the men's track and field team to tie for 18th in the final NEICAAA team standings.

Last season, Gibson eclipsed school and facility 60 meter hurdle record at North Central College to take home the 60 Meter Hurdle National Championship (8.04) during last years campaign. He became the first men's track & field athlete to earn the honorable distinction and the institutions second overall as Lancer Hall of Famer Elke Aun was the National Outdoor Heptathlon Champion in 1996.

Sophomore Luke Campbell (Brunswick, MD) of Salisbury beat out Gibson for the top spot nationally (7.97) and he comes into the event as the defending outdoor 110 meter hurdle champion.

Gibson paces a field of six returning All-Americans looking to vie for this year's 60 meter hurdle crown.  In addition to Campbell, they include third-seeded senior Ryan Lopez-Jordan (Beechwood, OH) of Marietta, fourth-seeded senior Adam Scalesse (Longview, WA) of Coast Guard, who was the finalist, senior TJ Valley (Prarie du Chien, WI) of Wisconsin-Platteville and ninth-seeded Ronnie Posthauer (Ladoger, IN) of Wabash.

Gibson and Scalesse are the only two student-athletes from New England in the field. In head-to-head competitions in the track & field postseason, Gibson beat out Scalesse in the Division III New England Championships and the Open New England's while Scalesse edged out Gibson by 0.01 of a second this past weekend for the ECAC Division III title.

The starting gun for the men's 60 meter hurdles trials will sound at 3:10 PM Eastern Standard Time on Friday, March 14. Gibson will run in the sixth lane of the opening heat.

The top 15 times, heights, distances and point totals were chosen for selection to the NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championship.
