Gibson Recognized As USTFCCCA National Division III Men’s Athlete of the Week

New Orleans, LA --- Senior Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) has been named United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III Men's Athlete of the Week for his outstanding weekend at the UMass Boston Open.

Gibson put up a remarkable split of 8.01 for the top finish in the 60 meter hurdles to eclipse the meet record before he scorched the track in the 60 meters with a time of 6.93 for the top collegiate finish and capped off his day with second overall in the 200 meters (22.61).

On the opening weekend of track and field competition, Gibson took over the top spot in the NCAA Division III 60 meter hurdles while tying for second in the 60 meters nationally and his 200 is ranked fifth. His 60 meter hurdles time on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center also equaled the eighth fastest in event history.

Gibson enters his senior indoor campaign looking to end the year with a second career NCAA Division III National Championship after he won the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.04 in his sophomore season, shattering the facility record at North Central.

At the 2013-14 NCAA Indoor Championships at Nebraska's Devaney Sports Center, Gibson and current junior Luke Campbell (Brunswick, MD) of Salisbury went head-to-head and had a 60 meter hurdles race to remember, with Campbell the winner at 7.75 and Gibson second with a 7.82 en-route to record the two fastest splits ever.

This week's honor marks the second time in his career that Gibson has been garnered with national recognition.

Gibson earned the accolade on February 24 for the top finish both in the 60 meters and the 60 meter hurdles while also running the third leg of the second-place 4x400 meter relay at the Division III New England Championships, helping the Lancers claim eighth as a team.

Over the course of his Worcester State indoor and outdoor career, Gibson has been a three-time NCAA Division III All-American, recognized with Division III New England Championships on three occasions and last year he was the runner-up at the New England Championships in both the 60 meter hurdles, the 110 meter hurdles and as the anchor leg of the 4x100 meter relay.
