Barros Paces Men's Indoor Track To Eighth At Dartmouth Relays

Hanover, NH --- Sophomore Jared Barros (Taunton, MA/Bristol-Plymouth) qualified for the Open New England Championships with a final split of 6.96 in the 60 meters as he helped pace the Worcester State men's indoor track and field team to eighth overall at the 46th Dartmouth Relays on Sunday afternoon.

The scoring meet, which used the top six times, heights and distances for scoring instead of the top eight, marked the first competition of the semester for the Lancers.

Barros' remarkable time in the 60 is now ninth in the latest NCAA Division III rankings and the sixth fastest split in program history. Barros joined senior Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) on the list as his time of 6.93 is tied for third nationally.

Gibson himself had the fastest time in the trials of the 60 meter hurdles (8.28), but sat out the finals.

Senior Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) recorded ninth in the 400 meters  (51.48) and classmate Daniel Ross (Foxboro, MA) tied for eighth in the high jump while both qualified for the Division III New England Championships in the event.

In the 4x200 relay, Barros ran the lead leg, junior Benjamin Dussault (Assonet, MA) was second, freshman Anthony Lawson (Randolph, MA) was third and Gannon anchored a fifth place time of 1:33.14 before Barros, Dussault, freshman Marquis Johnson (W. Hartford, MA) and Gannon teamed for seventh in the 4x400 (3:31.57).

Senior Robert White (Ludlow, MA) had a toss of seventh in the shot put (42-11/13.08 meters) to lead the field events and freshman Ezekiel Kyei (Oxford, MA) leaped ninth in the triple jump (42-8/13.00m).

Sophomore Sam Weeks (Methuen, MA) marked up 13th in the weight throw (44-8.75/13.63m) and 16th in the shot put (43-3/13.18m) while senior Matthew Begley (E. Bridgewater, MA) was right behind in the shot put with 17th overall (42-11/13.08m).

Senior Patrick Bova (Princeton, MA) added 21st in the 800 (2:08.31).

Next week, the Blue and Gold will compete at the Tufts Invitational.
