Solid Jumps, Relays Underscore Fifth Place Performance For #21 Men's Track At Tufts

 

Medford, MA --- Sophomore Jared Barros (Taunton, MA/Bristol-Plymouth) captured the top time in the 200 meters (22.80) and recorded third in the 60 meters (7.04) to help lead the Worcester State men's track and field team to fifth overall at the Tufts Invitational this afternoon.

With 45 points, the Lancers beat out two other MASCAC schools in the final standings including Bridgewater State in seventh (36 points) and Fitchburg State in eighth (29 points).

As the lead leg, Barros also underscored the second-place 4x400 meter relay (3:29.92) which also featured freshman Marquis Johnson (W. Hartford, CT), junior Marc George (Framingham, MA) and senior Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) at anchor.

In the field, freshman Ezekiel Kyei (Oxford, MA) cleared fourth in the triple jump (42-6.50/12.97 meters), senior Robert White (Ludlow, MA) notched seventh in the weight throw (47-2.50/14.39m), and sophomore Sam Weeks (Methuen, MA) marked up eighth in the shot put (44-5/13.54m).

Senior Daniel Ross (Foxboro, MA) chipped in with two points in the high jump (6-2/1.88m) for eighth place.  

Gannon sprinted to fifth in the 400 (51.53) and eighth in the 200 (23.38) while junior Benjamin Dussault (Assonet, MA) recorded 12th in the 200 (23.78) and 15th in the 400 (54.07).

Freshman Ariel Torres (N. Andover, MA) and senior Patrick Bova (Princeton, MA) placed eighth (2:10.54) and 12th (2:18.29), respectively in the 800, as Marquis Johnson notched 18th in the 600 (1:27.30).

Senior Matthew Alley (Milford, MA) finished 21st in the 60 (7.41) and sophomore Charles Newman (Westfield, MA) was just behind in 22nd (7.42).

The 4x200 meter relay teamed for fifth overall with a time of 1:38.29. Senior Shaun Corum (Billerica, MA) led off, freshman Brian Johnson (Ashburnham, MA) was second, Alley went third and Newman was the anchor.

The Lancers will continue their season next week at the Springfield Invitational.
