Gannon, Weeks Propel #19 Men's Indoor Track To Third At MASCAC Championships

 

Providence, RI --- Senior Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) and sophomore Sam Weeks (Methuen, MA) both won their respective events to help pace #19 Worcester State men's track and field team to third place at the MASCAC/Alliance Championships this afternoon at the Providence Career and Technical High School.

En-route to helping the Lancers tally 95.5 points as a squad, Gannon was the runner-up in the New England Alliance 400 meters with a time of 50.99 for his second consecutive indoor crown.

Weeks had a personal best toss of 46-6.25 (14.18m) in the shot put, which was the second-best distance in the Alliance while sophomore Jared Barros (Taunton, MA) also distinguished himself with the second-lowest Alliance splits in the 60 (6.99) and the 200 (22.43).

Senior Matthew Begley (E. Bridgewater, MA) added second in the MASCAC shot put (14.06m/46-1.50) as senior Robert White (Ludlow, MA), Weeks and Begley were second (14.23m/46-8.25), third (45-2.5/13.78m) and fourth (44-7.75/13.61m), respectively, in the weight throw.

Senior Jason Sliwoski (Leicester, MA) cleared fourth in the pole vault (12-7.50/3.85m), senior Daniel Ross (Foxboro, MA) tied for fifth in the high jump (6-2/1.88m), sophomore Brett Robinson (Westborough, MA) was sixth in the pole vault (11-7.75/3.55m) and freshman Ezekiel Kyei (Oxford, MA) marked up sixth in the triple jump (41-6/12.60m).

Other standouts included freshman Caleb White (Webster, MA) and Kyei who were just off each other in fourth (9.02) and fifth (9.14) in the 60 meter hurdles and junior Benjamin Dussault (Assonet, MA) cruised to sixth in the 200 (23.43).

Junior Marc George (Framingham, MA) and freshman Marquis Johnson (W. Hartford, CT) were seconds apart in fifth (1:27.59) and sixth (1:28.95) in the 600 followed by freshman Patrick Scheeler (Wakefield, MA) added sixth in the 1,000 (2:42.94) and senior Pat Daley (Millbury, MA) was sxith in the mile (4:44.60).

The 4x400 relay of George, Dussault, sophomore Charles Newman (Westfield, MA) and Marquis Johnson at anchor earned All-MASCAC honors with third (3:35.20).

Scheeler led off the 4x800 relay team that included freshman Ariel Torres (N. Andover, MA), Daley and freshman Daniel Brunelle (Dracut, MA) was fourth for all-conference honors with a time of 8:52.50.
