Two School Records Fall For #21 Men's Indoor Track At Open New Englands

Boston, MA --- Junior Marc George (Framingham, MA) and the leadoff leg of senior Pat Daley (Millbury, MA) on the distance medley relay underscored two school record performances for the Worcester State men's track and field team at the Open New England Championships.

The two-day weekend meet featured competition from Divisions I, II and III as every squad looked to try to take advantage of the banked track at Boston University.

George placed 17th in 500 meters (1:06.28) with an ECAC qualifying split as he reset the previous standard held by Jon Parrella, set two years ago at the same meet (1:06.98). George also had the fifth-best time for a Division III competator in the field of 30 entrants.

The DMR team of freshman Devin Luce (Milford, MA), classmate Shaun Corum (Billerica, MA), freshman Marquis Johnson (W. Hartford, CT) and Daley broke an eight-year program mark with a time of 10:58.94.

Other notable performances included sophomore Jared Barros (Taunton, MA) who sprinted to 10th in the 200 (22.03) and 13th in the 60 (7.02). As of Sunday morning, Barros had the tenth fastest converted 200 (22.20) in Division III from his outstanding race last month at the BU Terrier Classic.

Senior Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) also had the second-fastest 60 meter hurdle time (8.11) in the trials, but did not compete in the finals. Freshman Caleb White (Charlton, MA) added 31st in the same event (9.35).

Senior Robert White (Ludlow, MA) tossed the 19th-best weight throw (47-9/14.55), Scheeler clocked 24th in the 1,000 (2:37.25) and senior Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) timed 25th in the 400 (50.37).

The 4x400 relay of Barros, Marquis Johnson, Corum and Gannon notched 17th (3:22.20) while the 4x800 of Scheeler, George, senior Adam Pepin (Paxton, MA) and Daley registered 19th (8:16.82).

The previous DMR record had been set at the Division III New England Championships in 2007 by Rob Lind, Adam Malek, Chris Mancuso and Forest Wilber at Bates.

Next week select members of the Blue and Gold will compete at the ECAC Division III Championship, which will be held at the NYC Armory.
