ROXBURY, Mass. – Worcester State University's sophomore high jumper Justin Lewis (Lynn, Mass.) and junior thrower Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.) both broke Worcester State University school records in the high jump and weight throw, respectively, Saturday evening at the Husky Indoor Invitational. The Lancers in total saw four 1st place finishers amongst tough competition of Division I, II, and III members, and had five individuals qualify for DIII New England's at the event.

"We had a very solid second meet of the season," commented head coach Al Halper. "There were two school records broken as well as a number of early season PRs. We competed well against the Division I and II competition at the meet."
"Marcus Vieira had a breakthrough day in the 35lb weight throw," mentioned Halper. "Not only did he break the school record but he surpassed the 60' mark which is huge. It puts him in second place in the national Division III rankings.
"Justin Lewis continues to impress as he bettered his leap from last week to take sole possession of the top position in the country for NCAA Division III rankings in the high jump, while Eddie Boamah also gained national ranking with his 400m win and is presently 10th on the ranking list," said Halper.
"In addition, freshman Giovanny Guzman had a busy day making the finals in the 60m dash and posting a 7.28 in the trials," stated Halper. "He also did well in the 200, Long jump, and triple jump. HIs best mark in the triple jump was negated as it was below the minimum they were marking, but it was his best jump to date. He listens well and improves each week."
"Freshman Abdul Frederick qualified for D3 New England's in the 60m hurdles and continues to improve as well as he adapts to the college hurdles," said Halper. "Senior Marques Johnson ran a solid race in the 800 meters and put his time among the top in the conference."
Halper concluded, "As we move into the intersession break, the guys will need to continue to work hard while at home to insure we keep moving in the right direction and to be ready for the January meets."
