Ojukwu Tabbed MASCAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week

WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University’s John Ojukwu (Stow, Mass.) has been tabbed the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men’s indoor track & field rookie of the week for his debut performance in a Lancer uniform this past weekend.

“After spending first semester at Quinsigamond Community College, I was excited to see how well he did in his first collegiate meet, as he has sat out from competition for some time since graduating high school,” mentioned head coach Al Halper.

Ojukwu earned the top spot in the 60 meter dash in a time of 7.02 at the Branwent Smith-King Invitational. With this result, he stands at 31st nationally, and third in Division III New England.

“We only had a week to work on his form and start,” said Halper. “Once he gets more under his belt, he certainly can improve even more. He fills a need on the team as well and it certainly helps us to have someone with his sprint skills on top of the conference rankings in his event.”
