WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University's junior thrower, Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.) has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's indoor field athlete of the week, following a record-breaking performance in the weight throw at Boston University this past weekend.

"Marcus had a great day at the BU last chance meet," expressed head coach Al Halper.  "He had a good series of throws especially in the finals. Though he had been struggling for a few weeks, he picked the right time to break out from that."

Vieira broke his own school record in the weight throw with a distance of 19.15m (62' 10"), earning a first place finish at the Last Chance Meet. With this result, he currently sits at fifth in the national rankings.

"Competing against a solid field of competition from all three divisions, he is primed to do well now at the NCAA's in two weeks," said Halper.  "In addition, he has broken the school record three times this season. It is nice to see that all his hard work in practice is paying off for him."
