Vieira’s Record-Breaking Performance leads him to MASCAC Field Athlete of the Week Honors

WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University's junior thrower Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.) broke a Worcester State University school record in the 35 lb. weight throw this past weekend, leading him to Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) field athlete of the week honors.

Vieira broke the school record with a distance of 18.42m (60-5.25), earning a first place finish at the Husky Invitational. His throw trumped Sam Weeks who threw for 18.25m (59-10.5) last year at Division III New England's. With Vieira's mark, he qualified for both Division III New England's and All-New England's in the event. He also presently is ranked second on the national performance list in the weight throw.

This past weekend, he also competed in the shot put, coming in fourth with a distance of 13.67m (44-10.25).

The men's track & field team will break for the remainder of 2017 and open up the New Year with the Dartmouth Relays on Sunday, January 7.
