Men's Indoor Track & Field Second, Women 12th at Smith Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Senior Scott Page (Winchendon, Mass.) set a new school record in the pole vault on Saturday, leading the Worcester State University indoor track & field teams at the Smith Pioneer Invitational. The Lancer men would finish in second place out of 13 teams, while the women's team finished in 12th place out of 15.

Page recorded a mark of 4.57 meters (15 feet), beating his own school record of 4.40 meters from 2017. He was the winner of the pole vault on the day.

Page's school record was just one of the men's team's dominating performances in field events on the day. Senior Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.) was the winner of both the weight throw (18.32 meters) and shot put (14.92 meters) to sweep the throwing events. Junior Eddy Acuna (Newton, Mass.) finished just off the pace in the shot put, finishing in second with a heave of 14.65 meters.

A pair of Worcester State men's jumpers finished in fourth place in their respective events. Freshman Andre Luciano (Milford, Mass.) was fourth in the high jump with a jump of 1.75 meters, while junior Eddy Boamah (Worcester, Mass.) was fourth in the triple jump (12.52 meters).

Two Lancer relay teams had strong showings for the Worcester State men, including a first place finish for the 4x200 meter relay team, consisting of junior Michael Butten (Marblehead, Mass.), sophomore Zack Poitras (Webster, Mass.), and freshmen Nolan Forbes (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Connor Ashe (East Longmeadow, Mass.), with a time of 1:37.51. The 4x400 meter relay team, with Forbes, Ashe, Boamah, and freshman Andre Luciano (Milford, Mass.) finished in third place with a time of 3:34.56.

In individual events, sophomore John Ojukwu (Stow, Mass.) was the leading Lancer on the track, with a second place finish in the finals of the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.03 seconds. Freshmen Patrick Carleton (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished sixth in the 5000 meter run with a time of 16:13.21 and Charles Bray (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was eighth in the 60 meter hurdles (9.53) to round out the top Worcester State men's performances.

Junior Abigail MacGregor (Salem, N.H.) was the top performer for the Lancer women on Saturday, with a second place finish in the 60 meter dash (8.12). MacGregor was also 10th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.70 seconds.

Junior Rachel Stier (Mansfield, Mass.) ran to a sixth place finish in the 400 meter dash on the day, running a time of 1:01.52. Freshman Ryann Molinari (Grafton, Mass.) also recorded a sixth place finish on Saturday, coming in the 3000 meter run, crossing the finish line in a time of 11:28.27.

In the 5000 meter run, the Lancers were led by senior Laura DelleChiaie (Haverhill, Mass.), who finished in seventh place with a time of 20:47.53. Junior Elisabeth Olson (Wilmington, Mass.) finished ninth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:33.20.

The Lancers will be back in action with a Friday evening meet at Boston University on January 25.
