Strong Showing for Men's Indoor Track & Field at BU Valentine Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's indoor track & field team had three top-10 finishes on Saturday competing primarily against Division I student-athletes at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational.

Leading the way for Worcester State was senior Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.) who tied for third in the weight throw with a heave of 17.07 meters. Right behind him in fifth place was classmate Anthony Christo (Peabody, Mass.) with a throw of 17.02 meters. Rounding out Worcester State's top-10 finishes was junior Eddy Acuna (Newton, Mass.), who finished in 10th place in the shot put with a throw of 15.10 meters.

The only other Lancer field competitor of the day was senior jumper Ryan Connolly (Braintree, Mass.), who finished in 37th place in the triple jump with a distance of 12.48 meters.

On the track, sophomore John Ojukwu (Stow, Mass.) had the best finish of the day with a run of 7.16 seconds in the 60 meter dash, good for a 22nd place finish. In the 1,000 meter run, freshman Patrick Carleton (Tewksbury, Mass.) led a quartet of Lancers with a time of 2:36.05 to finish in 62nd. Freshman Connor Ashe (East Longmeadow, Mass.) had the best time of three Lancers in the 200 meter dash, running a time of 23.53 seconds to finish in 163rd place.

Worcester State will be back in action at Plymouth State next Saturday, competing in the MASCAC Championships.
