Ojukwu Wins 60 Meter Run as Men's Indoor Track Completes Day Two of New England Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Sophomore John Ojukwu (Stow, Mass.) was crowned New England Champion in the 60 meter dash on Saturday as the Worcester State University men's indoor track & field team competed in the New England Championships at MIT's Johnson Athletic Center.

Ojukwu ran a 60 meter time of 6.95 to win the finals of the event. He climbed all the way to the top after finishing in 11th in the preliminaries.

Also on the track, three Lancers competed in the 60 meter hurdles on Saturday, led by Abdulrazak Frederick (Shrewsbury, Mass.), who finished in 12th with a time of 8.70 seconds. Charles Bray (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Andre Luciano (Milford, Mass.) finished in 21st and 22nd place in the event respectively.

Senior Ryan Connolly (Braintree, Mass.) competed in a pair of jumping events at the championships, finishing in ninth place in the triple jump with a distance of 13.26 meters. In the long jump, Connolly was 22nd with a jump of 6.07 meters.

As has become a trend this season, the Lancer throwers were on point on the day. Eddy Acuna (Newton, Mass.) finished in third place in the shot put with a heave of 15.13 meters, while Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.) finished in seventh in the same event with a throw of 14.31 meters. Vieira also competed in the weight throw, finishing in third at 18.01 meters. Anthony Christo (Peabody, Mass.) finished right on his heels in fourth place with a throw of 17.99 meters.
