Begley, 4x100 Relay Take Home Top Finishes For Men's Outdoor Track At Tufts

 

Medford, MA --- Senior Matthew Begley (W. Bridgewater, MA) won the javelin with an ECAC Division III qualifier (184-4/56.19 meters) and the 4x100 meter relay captured first overall as both helped pace the Worcester State men's track and field team to ninth at the Tufts Snowflake Invitational.

The hosting Jumbos won the meet with 111.5 points while WSU was among the top ten squads with 38 points in their season-opening competition.

The winning 4x100 "A" relay of senior Shaun Corum (Billerica, MA) at lead-off, junior Benjamin Dussault (Assonet, MA), senior Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) and senior Matthew Alley (Milford, MA) timed 45.47.

Freshman Mamudu Dennis (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) was second overall in the 100 meters (10.87) for an Open New England qualifier followed by Alley who notched fifth (11.06) to stamp his ticket to the Division III New England Championships.

Dennis is tied for tenth in the NCAA Division III rankings (second in New England) while Alley is tied for 31st. Begley has the top javelin toss regionally and the 18th longest javelin heave among national competitors. 

Impressively the 4x100 "B" relay of sophomore Shane McKinley (Melrose, MA), Dennis, freshman Anthony Lawson (Randolph, MA) and Begley at anchor notched 46.57 with the second-best time in the event.

Freshman Caleb White (Charlton, MA) hit the Division III New England standard in the 110 meter hurdles (16.41) with fifth as the point scorers were rounded out by senior Daniel Ross (Foxboro, MA) and freshman Elijah Mawejje (Woburn, MA) tied for eighth in the high jump (6-0/1.83m).

Sophomore Marc George (Framingham, MA/Marian) sprinted to 11th in the 800 (2:05.21) and sophomore Will Whearty (Walpole, MA) added 14th in the 10,000 (37:16.95).  

Senior Robert White (Ludlow, MA) registered 10th in the discus (108-5/33.05m) and 13th in the hammer (113-0/34.39m).
