Begley Sets New Program Standard In Javelin For Men's Outdoor Track Fitchburg State

 

Fitchburg, MA --- Senior Matthew Begley (E. Bridgewater, MA) eclipsed his own school mark with the top finish in the javelin throw (57.95m/190-1) to help propel the Worcester State men's track and field team as the Jim Sheehan Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State.

Begley, who figures to have a top 15 toss in the event nationally, broke the mark he opened his junior year campaign with on March 23 at Bridgewater State (186-6/56.85m).

Sophomore Sam Weeks (Methuen, MA) marked up third in the discus (132-0/40.23m), fourth in the shot put (45-3/13.79m), which was good for a  Division III New England qualifier, and sixth in the hammer (140-1/42.71m).

Senior Matthew Alley (Milford, MA) was third overall in the 100 (11.50) followed by classmate Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA), who recorded sixth in the 400 (51.45) and 15th in the 200 (24.21).

Senior Jason Sliwoski (Leicester, MA) timed third in the 100 meter hurdles (16.66) and chalked up sixth in the discus (124-5/37.93m) while freshman Caleb White (Charlton, MA)  notched fourth in the 100 meter hurdles (16.76) and ninth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:02.57).

Freshman Elijah Mawejje (Woburn, MA) recorded fourth in the 400 meter hurdles (59.84) and ninth in the long jump (19-0.75/5.81m) as sophomore Marc George (Framingham, MA/Marion) put up a season-best time in the 800 for ninth (2:02.85).

The field was also underscored by senior Daniel Ross (Foxboro, MA) who equaled fourth in the high jump (6-0/1.83m), sophomore Brett Robinson (Westboro, MA) cleared fifth in the pole vault (11-11.75/3.65m) and junior Dana Perry (Mendon, MA) placed sixth in the triple jump (38-7.75/11.78m).

The 4x100 meter relay was third overall with a time of 44.41 while the 4x400 finished fourth (3:40.72).

Next week the Lancers will compete at the two-day Silfen Invitational  hosted by Connecticut College.
