Weeks Underscores Solid Performances For Men's Track At Holy Cross Quad Meet

 

Worcester, MA --- Sophomore Sam Weeks (Methuen, MA) placed first in the discus (141-9/43.20m) to highlight the Worcester State men's track and field teams fourth place finish at the Holy Cross Quadrangle meet this afternoon.

The Lancers scored 110 points overall and used the opportunity to post some good performances before the MASCAC/Alliance Championships at Fitchburg State this upcoming Saturday. In addition to the Crusaders, UNH and URI were also present at the meet.

Weeks also had a toss of fourth in the shot put (45-5.75/13.86m) and he qualified for the Division III New England Championships with fifth in the hammer (144-10/44.16m).

Senior Jared Barros (Taunton, MA) continued to torch the track as he was second overall in the 100 (10.87) before anchoring the 4x100 runner-up finish on a team that was made up of freshman Mamadu Dennis (Worcester, MA/Holy Name), senior Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) and classmate Matthew Alley (Milford, MA) (42.88).

Barros is now tied for 42nd in Division III in the 100 and he is fourth in New England in the event.

Those who stamped their ticket to the ECAC Championships included senior Daniel Ross (Foxboro, MA) with second overall in the high jump (6-4.25/1.94m) and senior Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) clocked fourth in the 100 (11.09).

Alley also placed fifth in the 100 (11.31) and ninth in the 200 (23.15) as sophomore Marc George (Framingham, MA/Marion) was second off away from the Division III New England standard with ninth in the 800 (1:58.16).

Freshman Caleb White (Charlton, MA) notched fourth in the 400 meter hurdles (58.29) and sixth in the 100 meter hurdles (16.20) while senior Jason Sliwoski (Leicester, MA) had a leap of fourth in the long jump (20-7.25/6.28m).
