Gibson Captures 110 Meter Hurdle Title At ECAC Division III Championships

 

Springfield, MA --- Senior Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) captured his first career ECAC title with the top spot in the 110 meter hurdles (14.09) to help Worcester State tie for 23rd place at the ECAC Division III Championships hosted by Springfield.

The Lancers tallied 13 points in the annual meet held featuring some of the best student-athletes from New England, New York and the Mid-Atlantic states.

Gibson clocked the second fastest time in Division III as it is just 0.02 seconds off the top spot nationally held by junior Luke Campbell (Brunswick, MD) of Salisbury. It was the programs seventh ECAC outdoor title and Gibson becomes the third individual winner.

Sophomore Jared Barros (Taunton, MA) was seventh in the 100 meters (11.03) while senior Jason Sliwoski (Leicester, MA) tallied eighth in the decathlon with 5,758 points. 

Sliwoski moved up in the standings to earn his third career All-ECAC honor with the second best height in the pole vault (13-0.75), the third best toss in the discus (128-4/39.11m), the fourth-longest mark in the javelin (147-06/44.97m), the fifth-best time in the 110 meter hurdles (16.12) and he clocked 5:57.08 in the 1,500.

In the field, senior Matthew Begley (E. Bridgewater, MA) placed 14th in the shot put (14.84m/48-2) and sophomore Sam Weeks (Methuen, MA) added 22nd in the same event (45-11.25/14.00m). Freshman Elijah Mawejje (Woburn, MA) and senior Daniel Ross (Foxboro, MA) were 20th (6-2/1.98m) and 26th (6-0/1.83m), respectively, in the high jump.

The 4x800 meter relay of sophomore Marc George (Framingham, MA/Marion), junior Marquis Johnson (E. Hartford, MA), senior Adam Pepin (Paxton, MA) and freshman Patrick Scheeler (Wakefield, MA) put up a time of 8:01.06 in 22nd place.

 

 

 


 

From Thursday: "Gibson Leads Men's Outdoor Track At ECAC Division III Championships"

 

Springfield, MA --- Senior Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) had the best time in the trials of the 110 meter hurdles and put up the second-best split in Division III (14.11) to help pace the Worcester State men's track and field team on the opening day of the ECAC Division III Championships at Springfield.

Gibson shattered his previous school mark from last week (14.25) as he looks for his third career ECAC accolade.

Sophomore Jared Barros (Taunton, MA) also stamped his ticket for the finals of the 100 meters (10.87) before he led off the 18th place 4x400 meter relay (3:23.92). The other members of the relay were sophomore Angel Martinez (Lawrence, MA) second, sophomore Marc George (Framingham, MA/Marion) and senior Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) at anchor.

Senior Jason Sliwoski (Leicester, MA), who is 15th in Division III in the decathlon entering Thursday, registered 11th with 2,990 points.

Sliwoski had the fifth-best shot put (36-5.50/11.11 meters), he was ninth in both the long jump (19-6.75/5.96m) and 400 (53.32), tenth in the 110 meter hurdles (11.98) and tied for 11th in the high jump (5-6.50/1.69m).

Senior Matthew Begley (E. Bridgewater, MA) notched 12th in the javelin to wrap up his campaign (172-11/52.70m).
