Gibson, Sliwoski To Represent Men's Outdoor Track At NCAA Championships

Indianapolis, IN --- Senior teammates Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) and Jason Sliwoski (Leicester, MA) have both been tabbed to compete at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships as announced by the selection committee on Monday morning.

Gibson, a six-time NCAA championship participant, will compete for the final time in the 110 meter hurdles while Sliwoski has earned a berth to partake in the decathlon. The NCAA Championships will be held at St. Lawrence in Canton, New York from May 21-23.

For the third time in his career, Gibson will line up on the blocks at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 110 meter hurdles. As the second seed, he will earn a preferred middle lane spot for the trials of the event on Friday at 5:30 PM.

This past weekend, Gibson captured ECAC Division III Championship accolades with a school-record time of 14.09 for the second fastest time nationally and he became the programs seventh New England Outdoor Champion on May 9 in the 110 meter hurdles (14.25).

Returning from last year are the three underclassmen who were All-Americans last year including junior and top-seed Luke Campbell (Brunswick, MD) of Salisbury who logged a 14.07, junior Jake Alviene (E. Greenbush, NY) of SUNY Oneonta and junior Connor Murtagh (Walpole, MA) of Bridgewater State.

Murtagh and Gibson are the lone representatives from New England in the field while Gibson attempts to defeat Campbell for the first time in his career during the finals. Should the pair meet in the last 110 meter hurdles race of the season, Gibson is 0-3 in hurdle races against Campbell all-time.

Gibson, who injured himself in the 4x100 meter relay and did not compete in the hurdles last year, sprinted to fourth place in the 110 meter hurdles as a sophomore. Gibson will try to earn All-American honors for the fourth-time overall in his career as he was the 2012-13 National Champion in the 60 meter hurdles and the 60 meter hurdles National Runner-Up in 2013-14.

Sliwoski enters the NCAA Championships as the 15th seed after he registered a school-record sum of 6,292 points at the Division III New England Championships three weeks ago. He captured All-Division III New England honors for the fourth time in his career as the runner-up, just 291 points off senior Eric Wainman (Glastonbury, CT) of Bates.

It marks the first time that Sliwoski will compete at a national indoor or outdoor championship as his previous best in the multi-event competition was 30th in Division III last year in the decathlon (6,246 points). He established a new program standard in the indoor heptathlon earlier this year with second at the Division III New England Championships (4,670 points).

Senior teammates Brandon Zarnoth (Appleton, WI) and Greg Peterson (Hartland, WI) of Wisconsin-Eau Claire are the returning All-Americans while Wainman and junior Dominic Esposito (Massapequa, NY) of Babson join Sliwoski as the competitors from New England.

The first five events of the decathlon will begin at 12 PM on Thursday and on Friday the last five will take place at the same time.
