Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Takes Part in Cross-Town Meet at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester State University men's outdoor track & field team took part in Holy Cross' Men's Meet on Wednesday (Apr. 27) - which included competition from two NCAA Division I schools – Holy Cross and the University of Rhode Island.

 

Duy Truong (Worcester, Mass.) filled the fourth spot in both the 110 Meter Hurdles in 15.01 to qualify for both Division III New England and ECAC Championships. He also came in at the same spot in the 100 Meter Dash (11.15). Classmate Benjamin Dussault (Assonet, Mass.) came in at seventh in the 100 Meter Dash in 11.33 and sixth in the 200 Meter Dash in 22.74. Anthony Lawson (Randolph, Mass.) followed in 23.13 for the seventh spot.

 

Marc George (Framingham, Mass.) qualified for Division III New England's in the 400 Meter Dash in 50.52, while Angel Martinez (Lawrence, Mass.) marked a seventh place finish in the 400 Meter Dash. Patrick Scheeler (Wakefield, Mass.) came in at eighth in the 800 Meter Run and Christian Vera (Worcester, Mass.) came in at ninth in the 1500 Meter Run.

 

Worcester State's Sam Weeks (Methuen, Mass.) marked a second place finish in the discus throw with a top-throw of 46.46m. He also placed third in the shot put at 14.79m, and finished in the third spot in the hammer at 50.21m. Freshman Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.) came in at fourth place in all throwing events: the shot put (13.19m), discus throw (42.70m), and the hammer (48.69m).

 

Jacob Roumanos (Whitman, Mass.) placed sixth in the shot put (13.14m), Alexander Mandragouras (Newbury, Mass.) came in at seventh in the discus throw (41.02m) and javelin (44.20m), qualifying for Division III New England's in the discus. Lancers' Anthony Christo (Peabody, Mass.), Mike Piantedosi (Stow, Mass.), and Robert White (Ludlow, Mass.) rounded up the seventh, eighth, and ninth spots in the hammer throw.

 

Worcester's Tyler Nims (Ashburnham, Mass.) marked a third place finish in the long jump at 6.20m, while Dana Perry (Mendon, Mass.) came in at seventh with 5.83m. Perry also competed in the triple jump for a distance of 11.28m. Scott Page (Baldwinville, Mass.) and Brett Robinson (Westborough, Mass.) came in at fifth and seventh places, respectively, in the pole vault at 3.96m and 3.66m.

 

Over the next couple days, Worcester State will begin to prepare for the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC)/Alliance Championships Meet on Saturday (Apr. 30) to be hosted by UMass-Dartmouth.
