Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Claims Second Place at MASCAC Championships; Weeks and Truong Earn Individual Titles

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Worcester State's men's outdoor track & field team marked a second place finish at the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Championships on Saturday (Apr. 30), as the team claimed four individual titles. The team placed 4th out of 11 teams competing in the Alliance (MASCAC/Little East opponents). Westfield State was crowned both the MASCAC and Alliance Champions.

 

Worcester State's throwers dominated once again this week, as Sam Weeks (Methuen, Mass.) was a three-time MASCAC (two-time Alliance) individual champion in the shot put (15.28m), discus throw (45.03m), and hammer throw (51.32m). Teammate Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.) followed Weeks' lead throughout claiming MASCAC's second place in the shot put (13.86m), discus throw (43.19m), and hammer throw (49.59m).

 

Senior Duy Truong (Worcester, Mass.) was the MASCAC Champion in the 200 Meter Dash as he finished in a time of 23.08 (4th Alliance). He also marked a second place finish in the 110 Meter Hurdles (15.06), a third place finish (4th Alliance) in the long jump (6.57m), and a fourth place finish (11th Alliance) in the triple jump (12.67m) for a combined 28 points for the Blue and Gold in the MASCAC's.

 

Worcester's Charles Newman (Westfield, Mass.) and Benjamin Dussault (Assonet, Mass.) both scored in the 100 Meter Dash and 200 Meter Dash. Newman took second place (5th Alliance) in the 100 Meter Dash (11.40) and fifth in the 200 Meter Dash (23.40) while Dussault came in at fourth and third, respectively.

 

Jacob Roumanos (Whitman, Mass.) marked a third place finish in the MASCAC shot put event at 13.75 (6th place Alliance) to qualify for DIII New England's, while Anthony Christo (Peabody, Mass.) came in at 5th place with 12.67m. Alexander Mandragouras (Newbury, Mass.), Mike Piantedosi (Stow, Mass.), and Ryan Filliger (Haverhill, Mass.) all scored in the discus throw in MASCAC's as they came in at 4th, 5th, and 6th places, respectively. Robert White (Ludlow, Mass.) marked a MASCAC 3rd place finish in the hammer throw (45.14m) while Piantedosi and Christo followed at fourth and fifth places - White and Piantedosi qualified for DIII New England's. Mandragouras and Adrian Lingo (Sharon, Mass.) claimed the MASCAC 5th and 6th spots in the javelin throw at 49.94m and 48.37m, respectively.

 

Marc George (Framingham, Mass.) and Anthony Lawson (Randolph, Mass.) scored in the 400 Meter Dash with MASCAC fifth and sixth place finishes, both qualifying for Division III New England Championships. Jeffrey Davis (Old Lyme, Conn.) and Patrick Scheeler (Wakefield, Mass.) came in at the same spots in the 800 Meter Run. Devin Luce (Milford, Mass.) grabbed a fifth place finish in the 1500 Meter Run (4:15.27) while Christian Vera (Worcester, Mass.) placed fourth in the 10000 Meter Run (34:36.19).

 

Michael Ricci (Peabody, Mass.) scored in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase, marking a fifth place finish in 10:27.84.

 

Markiesh Harmon (Leominster, Mass.) took MASCAC's sixth spot in the high jump and fourth place in the long jump for five points. He qualified for Division III New England's in the long jump. Scott Page (Baldwinville, Mass.) and Brett Robinson (Westborough, Mass.) scored in the MASCAC's in the pole vault at 3.95m and 3.80m, respectively.

 

Worcester State took second place in the 4x100 Meter Relay (43.19) with a team of Truong, Mamudu Dennis (Worcester, Mass.), Dussault, and Newman. Worcester State then placed third in both the 4x400 Meter Relay (3:27.40) and in the 4x800 Meter relay (8:30.69).

 

This upcoming weekend a group of Lancers will travel to Springfield College to take part in Division III New England Championships.
