Harmon, Weeks, and Vieira Lead Lancers at Division III New England Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.Markiesh Harmon (Leominster, Mass.), Sam Weeks (Methuen, Mass.), and Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.) collected a combined 18 points in Worcester State University's 16th place finish at Division III New England Championships Friday-Saturday (May 6-7) at Springfield College.

 

Harmon was the first freshman to place in the long jump and came in third overall for six Lancer points. He marked a top distance of 6.69m, just slightly behind the top finisher from Westfield State.

 

Weeks marked a third place finish in the shot put (15.01m) and an eighth place finish in the hammer throw (48.47m), while Vieira marked four points with a fifth place finish in the discus throw (42.88m). Weeks also competed in the discus for a distance of 40.71m. Vieira came in ninth in the hammer (47.48m) and 14th in the shot put (13.24m).

 

Also competing in the throws was Jacob Roumanos (Whitman, Mass.) in the shot put (13.09m), Alexander Mandragouras (Newbury, Mass.) in the discus (39.58m), Mike Piantedosi (Stow, Mass.) in the hammer (43.92m), and Robert White (Ludlow, Mass.) in the hammer (43.72m.)

 

Benjamin Dussault (Assonet, Mass.) marked 15th place finish in the 100 Meter Dash (11.40), and a 10th place finish in the 200 Meter Dash (22.47). Charles Newman (Westfield, Mass.) came in a few spots behind in the 100 Meter at 23rd place (11.53), and at 19th in the 200 (22.87).

 

Duy Truong (Worcester, Mass.) took part in the long jump and recorded a distance of 4.77m. Worcester State's 4x400 Meter Relay came in 8th place out of 16 teams competing.

 

MIT was crowned Division III New England Champions (179.50 points), while Bates came in second (69 points). Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) opponent, Westfield State came in third (63.50 points) at the event.

 
 

Next weekend, the Lancers travel to New Haven, Conn. to participate in All New England Champions, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University. Live stats and a live video feed are available for viewing at the following links:
