Outdoor Track & Field Travels to Southern Connecticut for New England Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Worcester State men's and women's track & field teams traveled to Southern Connecticut State University this weekend to take part in the New England Championships which consist of all schools of all divisions in the New England Region.

 

Worcester State's Sam Weeks (Methuen, Mass.) was the sole Lancer to score for the Blue and Gold. He scored in both the shot put (15.67m) and discus (46.24m) at 7th and 8th places, respectively, to give the Lancers three points in their 34th place finish. He also participated in the hammer throw, coming in at 12th place for a top throw of 48.61m.

 

Alexander Mandragouras (Newbury, Mass.) and Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.) placed 14th and 15th in the discus at 42.18m and 41.68m, respectively. Vieira also took part in the hammer throw for a 14th place finish at 47.33m.

 

Markiesh Harmon (Leominster, Mass.) came in 18th place in the long jump (6.54m).

 

Worcester State's 'A' team marked a 16th place finish in the 4x100 meter relay in 43.45. They then placed 17th in the 4x400 meter relay (3:26.10).

 

Abigail Danso (Worcester, Mass.) was the only female Lancer to finish in the 100 Meter Hurdles as she placed 28th in 15.76.

 

This upcoming week (May 18-19) the Lancers will travel to Westfield State for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships.
