Throwers Lead Lancers to 6th Place Finish at AIC's Yellow Jacket Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Worcester State University's throwing squad led the men's outdoor track & field team to a 6th Place finish at American International College's 7th Annual Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday, as they marked up 42 of the team's total 50 points.

 

Senior Sam Weeks (Methuen, Mass.) and sophomore Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.) both placed in three throwing events each. Weeks claimed 2nd place in both the shot put (15.60m) and discus (48.63m), and then came in 5th in the hammer throw (49.02m). Vieira captured the win in the hammer throw (50.31m) and came in 3rd and 7th places, respectively, in the discus (43.99m) and shot put (13.49m).

 

Also placing in the top-8 in the throwing events was Elmer Acuna (Newton, Mass.) who came in 6th in the shot put (13.49m).

 

Jalil Gibson (Lynn, Mass.) scored five points for his team in the 100 Meter Dash, as he completed the sprint in a time of 11.19. He also competed in the 200 Meter Dash, completing the dash in a time of 22.98.

 

Pole vaulter, Brett Robinson (Westborough, Mass.) captured a point for his team in the pole vault competition, marking the 8th place spot (3.80m).

 

Scoring two additional points for the Blue and Gold, was the Lancers' 4x400 Meter Relay who finished in a time of 3:45.57.

 

Next weekend, the Lancers travel to Fitchburg State.
