Men's Outdoor Track & Field Wins Eric Loeschner Invitational

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Both the men's and women's track & field teams won the Eric Loeschner Track & Field Invitational on Saturday (Apr. 15), as the men's team soared past its 23 opponents, and scored 170.50 points as a team.

 

As usual, Worcester State's throwing team dominated the hammer throw, discus throw, and shot put events. Sam Weeks (Methuen, Mass.) was the winner of the discus with a personal record of 50.51m. He also won the shot put (16.04m) and was tabbed with second place in the hammer throw (53.12m) to register another PR. With this week's results, Weeks stand at 7th nationally in the discus, and 15th nationally in the shot put.

 

Worcester State's Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.)  earned third place in the discus throw (42.19m), fourth place in the hammer throw (51.26m), and fifth place in the shot put (13.78m). Jacob Roumanos (Whitman, Mass.) was tabbed with fourth place in the shot put (14.04m) and fifth place in the discus throw (38.88m). Elmer Acuna (Newton, Mass.) scored in both the discus throw (40.13m) and the shot put (13.73m). Also scoring in the throwing events was Taylor Clark (Whittinsville, Mass.) in the shot put (13.62m), Anthony Christo (Peabody, Mass.) and Colin Ford (Middletown, R.I.) in the hammer throw.

 

Leading the Lancers in the jumps were Markiesh Harmon (Leominster, Mass.) and Edward Boamah (Worcester, Mass.). Harmon placed third in the high jump (1.90m) and fifth in both the long jump (6.24m) and the triple jump (12.70m), while Boamah came in third in the triple jump (13.14m) and seventh in the long jump (6.13m). Elijah Mawejje (Woburn, Mass.) came in at the fourth spot in the high jump (1.85m), while Ryan Connolly (Braintree, Mass.) came in sixth in the triple jump (12.50m)

 

John Newcomb (Northborough, Mass.) was the sole Lancer to compete in the 10000 Meter run and came in a time of 38:27.42. Michael Ricci (Peabody, Mass.) competed in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase and placed second in 10:16.27.

 

Brett Robinson (Westborough, Mass.) and Scott Page (Baldwinville, Mass.) both competed in the pole vault as Robinson came in fourth place at 3.80m and Page came in fifth at 3.65m. Page also took part in the 110 Meter Hurdles and placed sixth in 17.74. Isaac Ofori (Webster, Mass.) led the Lancers in the 400 Meter Hurdles (58.76).

 

The Lancers secured second place in both the relays. They completed the 4x100 Meter Relay in a time of 42.70, and the 4x400 Meter Relay in 3:26.99. The 4x100M was ran by Jalil Gibson (Lynn, Mass.), Charles Newman (Westfield, Mass.), Phillip Bynum (Peabody, Mass.) and Jared Barros (Taunton, Mass.) is currently ranked 6th best on Division III New England rankings, and is top in the MASACAC. The 4x400M was ran by Boamah, Jeffrey Davis (Old Lyme, Conn.), Momodou Kabareh (Worcester, Mass.), and Marc George (Framingham, Mass.), and currently stands at 13th in all of Division III New England and second in the MASCAC.

 

George was the top runner in the sprints category, as he placed second in the 400 Meter Dash (50.39). Kabareh followed at third place in 50.69 seconds. Newman tagged fifth place in the 200 Meter Dash (23.07) while Boamah and Kabareh follow at sixth and eight places, respectively. Bynum and Barros came in seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 100 Meter Dash.

 

Worcester State's middle distance runners Marques Johnson (W, Hartford, Conn.) and Davis placed sixth and seventh in the 800 Meter Run. Johnson recorded a PR in the event, at 1:59.97, which is currently puts him at 3rd in the MASCAC standings.

 

This upcoming week (Apr. 19-20) a group of Lancers will compete at Holy Cross in the Heptathlon and Decathlon.
