Weeks Leads Men's Outdoor Track & Field to Sixth Place Finish at Division III New England’s

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Worcester State University's throwing squad along with the help of Justin Lewis (Lynn, Mass.) and its 4x100 Meter Relay team led the Lancers to a sixth place finish with a total of 44 points scored at the Division III New England Championships (May 5-6).

 

The throwers accounted for 35 of the 44 points as senior Sam Weeks (Methuen, Mass.) chalked up 23 points. Weeks placed second in three throwing events: shot put (15.97m), discus throw (50.36m), and tied for second with teammate Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.) in the hammer throw (51.58m). While Vieira tied for second with Weeks in the hammer, he also finished 4th in the discus throw (45.04m) and threw in the shot put event (13.23m).

 

Worcester State sent four additional throwers to Division III New England's as Anthony Christo (Peabody, Mass.) came in 9th in the hammer throw (47.09m). Elmer Acuna (Newton, Mass.), Jacob Roumanos (Whitman, Mass.), and Alexander Mandragouras (Newbury, Mass.) took part in the shot put and discus competitions.

 

Scoring the remaining points for the Blue and Gold was Lewis who came in second in the high jump at 2.01m. Other Worcester State members who took part in the jumps were long jumpers Markiesh Harmon (Leominster, Mass.) and Edward Boamah (Worcester, Mass.).

 

Scott Page (Baldwinville, Mass.) competed in the pole vault (4.02m).

 

Isaac Ofori (Webster, Mass.) competed in the 400 Meter hurdles (59.15), Michael Ricci (Peabody, Mass.) took part in the 3000 Meter steeplechase (10:15.25), and Marques Johnson (W. Hartford, Conn.) held down the middle distance in the 800 Meter Run (2:03.43).

 

Sprinting on the day was Jalil Gibson (Lynn, Mass.), Phillip Bynum (Peabody, Mass.), Boamah, Charles Newman (Westfield, Mass.), Jared Barros (Taunton, Mass.), Brett Robinson (Westborough, Mass.) and Marc George (Framingham, Mass.). Gibson, Bynum, and Boamah took part in the 100M Dash, while Gibson Newman, Barros and Robinson competed in the 200.

 

Next up is the All New England Championship which will also be held at Williams College from May 11-12.
