Cross Country Shines at James Earley Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's and women's cross country teams each earned top-four finishes on Saturday as the teams competed in the James Earley Invitational at Stanley Park. The Lancer women placed second overall out of 28 teams, while the men were fourth out of 28.

Leading the way for the Lancers was senior Elisabeth Olson (Wilmington, Mass.) with a massive PR of 18:04.90 to finish in third place overall in the women's 5k race. Sophomore Ryann Molinari (Grafton, Mass.) was Worcester State's second finisher with a time of 18:56.46 for an eighth place finish.

Worcester's third scorer was sophomore Kasey Clark (Dudley, Mass.), who crossed the line in a time of 19:27.45 to finish 20th overall. Rounding out Worcester State's scorers were senior Megan Foley (Orange, Conn.) and junior Shaylee Puleo (Tewksbury, Mass.), who finished in 41st and 43rd respectively with times of 19:55.99 and 19:58.08. All five Worcester State scorers recorded the best 5k times of their collegiate careers on the day.

On the men's side, sophomore Patrick Carleton (Tewksbury, Mass.) was the top Lancer finisher with a time of 26:48.07 in the 8k race, good for 23rd place. Classmates Wayne Carey (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Drew Fottler (Chelmsford, Mass.) were right on Carleton's heels with 25th and 26th place finishes respectively, and times of 26:49.26 and 26:52.48.

Junior Brian King (Stow, Mass.) was the men's team's fourth finisher with a 61st place finish and time of 28:13.86, with sophomore Colin Brennan (Newbury, Mass.) rounding out the scores with a time of 28:32.35 to finish in 72nd place.

Both teams will be back in action next weekend as they head to Springfield for the Western New England Invitational.
