Cross Country Closes Regular Season at Western New England Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's and women's cross country teams closed out their regular seasons on Saturday morning, competing in the Western New England Invitational on the campus of Western New England University.

The men's team looked sharp on the day, finishing in third place overall out of a field of 15 teams. Sophomore Patrick Carleton (Tewksbury, Mass.) set the pace for the Lancers with a second place finish overall and a personal best time of 26:14 on the 8k course. Classmate Drew Fottler (Chelmsford, Mass.) wasn't far behind Carleton, placing sixth overall with a time of 26:35. Finishing just outside the top-10 for Worcester State was sophomore Wayne Carey (Shrewsbury, Mass.) in 11th with a time of 26:47.

Crossing the finish line in fourth for the Lancers was sophomore Ben Morin (New Braintree, Mass.) with a time of 28:07, placing 39th overall. Rounding out Worcester State's scorers was 45th place finisher Brian King (Stow, Mass.), who crossed the line in a time of 28:18.

On the women's side, the Lancers finished in sixth place overall out of 17 teams competing in the 6k race. Worcester State's pace was set by sophomore Ryann Molinari (Grafton, Mass.), who finished in 10th place overall with a time of 22:52. Sophomore Kasey Clark (Dudley, Mass.) finished second for the Lancers, placing 20th with a time of 23:53. Crossing the line in 26th was Lancer senior Megan Foley (Orange, Conn.), running a time of 24:10.

Senior Olivia Morin (Westford, Mass.) was the fourth Worcester State runner to finish on the day, placing 34th overall with a time of 24:35. Junior Shaylee Puleo (Tewksbury, Mass.) was the final Lancer scorer, running the 6k in 25:11 to place 52nd.

The Lancers will be back in action for the MASCAC Championships on Saturday, November 2 at Moore State Park in Paxton, Mass.
