Softball Caps Spring Break Trip with Pair of Losses

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Worcester State University softball team capped its Florida Spring Break trip with a pair of defeats Friday at the Osceola County Softball Complex. Worcester State lost the opener 8-0 to Potsdam, before falling 9-0 to Loras, both in five innings.

With the losses, the Lancers end their Florida swing with a record of 0-10.

GAME 1 - Potsdam 8, Worcester State 0 (5 innings)

The Lancers were held to just two hits over five innings to suffer a defeat in the first game of the day.

Megan Fish put Potsdam on the board first in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single as part of a two run inning.

Potsdam scored two more in the bottom of the third to take a 4-0 lead.

In the top of the fourth, the Lancers mounted their strongest threat of the day, advancing runners to second and third after walks from Tyler Rano (Auburn, Mass.) and Alyssa Monti (Marlborough, Mass.) and a wild pitch, but Worcester State couldn't push the runs across.

Potsdam scored four unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth to take an 8-0 lead, and the Lancers couldn't mount any offense in the top of the fifth to end the ballgame.

Sophomore Liv Larson (Marlborough, Mass.) took the loss in the circle for Worcester State, allowing four earned runs on six hits in two and a third innings. Molly Glynn (Abington, Mass.) allowed no earned runs in an inning and two thirds in relief.

GAME 2 - Loras 9, Worcester State 0 (5 innings)

Worcester State's offense was again stumped in game two on the day as the Lancers couldn't close out the trip with a win.

Junior Kaiulani Ennis (Swansea, Mass.) managed the only hit for Worcester State offensively with a base hit in the fourth inning, as the Loras pitching staff was able to keep the Lancers in check.

Junior Carly Zielinski (Monson, Mass.) wound up with the loss in the contest, throwing an inning and two thirds, allowing two earned on one hit.

Worcester State will be off for a week and a half before taking the field against Nichols for an away doubleheader on March 26.
