WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester State University softball team swept Massachusetts Maritime Academy Saturday afternoon on its Senior Day at Raymond Diamond. Worcester State won game one 16-0 and game two 9-1, both in five innings.

Between games, the five members of Worcester State softball's senior class, Monica Ferrazzani (North Reading, Mass.), Rachel Frisch (Worcester, Mass.), Kristen Huston (Spencer, Mass.), Katie Polselli (Charlton, Mass.), and Haley Scola (Worcester, Mass.), were honored as they played in their final regular season home game.

With the wins, Worcester State finishes its regular season 8-30 overall and 7-7 in MASCAC play.

GAME 1 - Worcester State 16, Mass. Maritime 0 (5 innings)

The Lancers recorded an impressive 16 runs on 18 hits in the first game of the afternoon to claim a convincing victory.

Worcester State put up a seven-spot in the bottom of the second inning to jump out to an early advantage. Junior Kaiulani Ennis (Swansea, Mass.) capped the inning by nailing an opposite field two-run home run.

A two-run triple from junior Ashley Lynch (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was the biggest blow in a four-run bottom of the third inning for Worcester State to help the Lancers to an 11-0 lead. Ferrazzani cleared the bases with a three-run double in the fourth inning for some insurance, en route to the shutout victory.

Frisch got the win for Worcester State in the circle, throwing three innings and allowing just two hits. In relief, freshman Molly Glynn (Abington, Mass.) allowed just one hit in two innings of relief.

Lynch, Ennis, Scola, and junior Samantha Stake (Worcester, Mass.) all recorded three hits to lead the Lancers offensively. For the Buccaneers, junior Madison Ovadek (Greenland, N.H.) led the way with a pair of hits.

GAME 2 - Worcester State 9, Mass. Maritime 1 (5 innings)

Just as in game two, Worcester State got the scoring started in the bottom of the second inning, this time as Stake delivered a two-run double to put Worcester State on top 2-0.

Mass. Maritime quickly got one run back, as freshman Malarie Pittsley (Dighton, Mass.) recorded an RBI on a ground out to second base.

Scola smacked her second home run of the season in the bottom of the third inning, putting Worcester State ahead 4-1.

The Lancers still held a 4-1 lead headed to the bottom of the fifth inning, but Worcester State's offense put up another five spot to close out the win. Polselli got the rally started with a two-run single, and after a pair of RBI fielders choices from Huston and Ferrazzani, Stake walked it off with an RBI single, scoring pinch runner Alyssa Monti (Marlborough, Mass.).

Carly Zielinski (Monson, Mass.) got the win for Worcester State in the circle, throwing a complete game, allowing just one earned run on four hits.
