
Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Softball team had two named to the MASCAC weekly awards in the opening week of the season. First years Bella Gasbarro (Leominster, MA) and Emma Lapoint (Westfield, MA) were named the Player and Rookie of the Week by the MASCAC. The Softball team has opened their season at 3-1, with wins over the University of Me.- Farmington, Susquehanna and Wilson College.
Gasbarro batted .571 (8-14) with a double, homerun, two RBI and three runs scored with a .600 on-base percentage in a 3-1 week for the Lancers. Was 2-for-3 with a RBI, run scored and walk in the 7-0 win over Maine-Farmington. Added a home run, RBI and run scored in the 10-2 win over Wilson. Went 3-for-4 in the 12-9 win over Susquehanna.
Lapoint batted .700 (7-10) with a double, triple, home run, seven RBI, four runs scored, a .700 on-base percentage and 1.300 slugging percentage in three games for the Lancers. Went 2-for-3 with a double, home run, four RBI and run scored in the 7-0 win over Maine-Farmington. Was a perfect 4-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and three runs scored in the 12-9 win over Susquehanna.
The Lancers are back in action on Tuesday when they take on Muhlenberg at 11am followed by Franciscan at 3pm at the Fast Pitch Dream Tournament in North Myrtle Beach.
