Bowdoin Defeats Women's Basketball, 76-41

 

Brunswick, ME --- Bowdoin senior Kristen Prue (Auburn, ME) finished with a school-record 14 assists as she helped pace the Polar Bears to a 76-41 victory over Worcester State in non-conference women's basketball action this evening.   

The Polar Bears remain unbeaten at 8-0 this season while the Lancers fall to 3-6 on the year.

Sophomore Shannon Brady (Scituate, MA) registered a game-best 20 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the field to go with six rebounds for the hosts. Junior Megan Phelps (Southwest Harbor, ME) added 12 points for the Polar Bears while second-year Maddy Fulton (Wilton, CT) pitched in nine off the bench for Bowdoin. 

Prue, who also chipped in with six boards and six points, eclipsed a 24-year assist record.

 Junior Kiesha Jones (Worcester, MA/Doherty) led Worcester State with 12 points. Senior Emily Barrett (Dracut, MA) had nine rebounds for the Lancers, who also received seven points from sophomore Natasha Gonzalez (Milford, MA) in 14 minutes of action.

Bowdoin jumped to a 17-1 lead and never looked back as they carried a margin 36-20 into halftime.

Worcester State was able to cut into the Bowdoin lead early in the second half, trimming the advantage to 13 points, 44-31, following a Jones three-pointer with 15:34 left.

The Polar Bears, however, answered with a quick 10-0 spurt over the next three minutes, extending their advantage to 54-31 on a Brady lay-in with 12:05 to go.

Bowdoin hit 51 percent of their shots for the game (30-for-59) and held a 45-27 advantage on the glass. The Polar Bears owned a 46-12 edge in the paint and earned 29 points off 23 Lancer turnovers.

Both squads will play non-conference opponents in the next week. Worcester State closes out the semester with Springfield in a 7:30 meeting at WPI while the Polar Bears entertain UMaine Farmington at 7 PM on Wednesday.
