Frankian Receives WACBA Women's Basketball Player of the Week Laurels

 

Worcester, MA --- Sophomore Julie Frankian (Millbury, MA) has been tabbed with Worcester Area County Basketball Association honors for her solid efforts in a 1-1 week for Worcester State.

Frankian averaged 17.5 points and 10.5 rebounds which included a season-best 22 points and 13 boards in a 70-57 MASCAC opening win over MCLA after she logged 13 points and eight caroms in a 77-54 loss against Keene State. She also connected for .571 percent from the field (12-21) and .833 percent from the line (10-12).

Through her first 12 games of the year, Frankian is ranked among the top 10 in the MASCAC in total rebounds (85), average rebounds (7th – 6.5 RPG), points per game (10th – 11.5 PPG) and field goal percentage (10th - .422). Her 31 assists (2.6 per game) are also 13th in the conference. 

Among NCAA Division III leaders, Frankian is fourth in the nation in free throw percentage (.927 – 38-for-41). Earlier this season, she shattered the previous school record for consecutive free throws with 34 straight at the charity stripe over an 11 game span which included one contest from the 2012-13 campaign.

As a team the Blue and Gold are also ranked fourth in New England in free throw percentage (.737). 

The Lancers will continue their second-semester schedule with an away matchup against Salem State today at 5:30, a 7 PM meeting on the road against Johnson & Wales and a home date with Bridgewater State at 1 PM at Assumption's Laska Gymnasium.
