Burns Earns Spot on All-MASCAC Women's Basketball Team

Westfield, MA --- Senior Meaghan Burns (W. Brookfield, MA) has been recognized with All-MASCAC Second-Team honors after a vote by the leagues seven head coaches earlier this week as announced by league publicist Emily Diekelmann.

Burns, who received her second straight nod to the all-conference team, finished the campaign averaging 14.4 points per game, 6.2 average boards and 2.1 assists.

As of this past Tuesday, she was ranked fourth in the MASCAC in points, seventh in free throw percentage (.735 – 75-for-102), ninth in rebounding, 10th in field goal percentage (.383) while Burns was among the top 20 in total steals (35) and assists (54).

Burns wrapped up her career 11th on Worcester State's All-Time scoring list (1,136 points) and fourth on the career steals list with exactly 200 swipes. Nearly a quarter of her point total came at the free throw line as she poured in the second-most buckets from the charity stripe in the program record book (280).

Among WSU student-athletes with 300 attempts, Burns moved into the top spot with a solid .693 career percentage at the line (280-for-404). As of this past Tuesday, the Lancers school-record effort from the stripe ranked 21st in New England and was just outside of the Top 100 in Division III.

Last month, Burns was recognized for her outstanding achievements in the classroom and on the court by the College Sports Information Directors of America (Co-SIDA) on the Capital One All-Academic District I team.

Under the direction of 20th year head coach Karen Tessmer, the Lancers qualified for their 24th consecutive MASCAC Tournament and ended the year at 9-17.
