Frankian, Langford Named All-MASCAC, Perez Honored Rookie Of The Year

Westfield, MA --- Senior Julie Frankian (Millbury, MA), junior Bianca Langford (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) and freshman Nani Perez (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) were all tabbed with All-MASCAC honors in a vote by the leagues seven head coaches earlier this week as announced by league publicist Emily Diekelmann.

Frankian earned All-MASCAC First-team accolades while Langford received Second-team laurels. Perez was also tabbed the MASCAC Rookie of the Year.

En-route to her first career all-conference plaque, Frankian has been a spark for the Lancers all-season as she has compiled 15.6 points per game, 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists suiting up in every game for WSU.

Among leaders in the MASCAC, Frankian has the second-highest scoring average and free throw percentage (.829) while she is also third in made free throws (92), tied for fourth in field goals made (126) and seventh in field goal percentage (.424).

Frankian has set a program record with 61 made trifectas and entering the week of the league tournament, her three-point field goal clip of .455 led New England and ranked fifth in the NCAA Division III.

After matriculating from Southern New Hampshire, Langford has been an impact transfer for the Blue and Gold averaging 12.8 points per game while topping the MASCAC with 12.3 rebounds and 3.0 blocks to go along with a nifty .470 field goal percentage for the fifth-highest sum in the league.

In addition to putting up 16 double-doubles in 26 contests, Langford's blocks are first in New England (11th in Division III) and her average caroms are ranked second regionally (19th in Division III). Among Worcester State single-season standouts, her total boards (321) and rejections (73) are fourth and fifth, respectively.

Perez had a remarkable freshman season as she is averaging 6.2 points, 4.7 assists and 4.2 rebounds for Worcester State. With the seventh highest single-season assist total in program history, she made her mark dishing out 123 helpers on the campaign with 15 contests with at least five or more.

Among the nation's top first-year student-athletes, Perez has the second-highest total (41st in Division III) and she is eighth in New England in average assists.

The last MASCAC Rookie of the Year was recent Lancer Hall of Fame inductee Rochelle Lavoie who was the only freshman student-athlete to be named with all-conference laurels during the 2001-02 campaign.

Under the direction of 21st year head coach Karen Tessmer, the Lancers tied for third in the MASCAC, earned the third seed in the conference playoffs and currently sport a 17-9 record overall.

Their season continues tonight on the road in the league tournament semifinals against second-seeded Bridgewater State in a 5:30 tip-off.
