Framingham State Defeats Worcester State, 68-42

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. - The Framingham State women's basketball team defeated the visiting Worcester State Lancers 68-42 in MASCAC action Wednesday evening. With the win, the Rams improve to 17-6 and 9-2 in the league to hold the number two seed in the MASCAC tournament. The Lancers fall to 7-17 and 4-7 in conference play, currently tied at the fourth seed with MCLA.

 

The Rams were led by junior Sarah Palace (Auburn, Mass.) with 19 points. Junior Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.) registered a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Raegan Mulherin (Baldwinville, Mass.) added 11 points and Quinn O'Connell (Sterling, Mass.) added 10 points from the bench.

 

Freshman Kaitlyn Berkel (Waterford, Conn.) led the charge for the Lancers registering a double-double of her own scoring 11 points and collecting 11 rebounds. Freshman guard, Kate Surprenant (Pelham, NH) added in eight points while senior Natasha Gonzalez (Milford, Mass.) netted seven.

 

The Rams came out of the gates hot scoring the first 16 points of the game and ended the first quarter with a 20-4 advantage. The Lancers fought back in the second period and entered the break trailing 35-19. The visitors cut the Rams lead to 12 early in the third quarter but they were unable to get any closer.

 

The host shot 40 percent from the field and 31 percent from beyond the arc. The visitors shot 32 percent from the floor but were unable to connect from long range in four attempts.

 

The Rams host Fitchburg State on Saturday, February 20th in the regular season finale. The Lancers host Westfield State on the same day for senior day and a Play 4 Kay "Pink" game at 1 p.m. on the campus of WPI.
