Women’s Basketball Drops Wesleyan Tournament Consolation Game to Keene State, 68-46

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Worcester State women's basketball team dropped a 68-46 consolation game of the Wesleyan Marriott by Courtyard Tournament to the Keene State Owls, 68-46 Saturday (Dec. 3) afternoon inside the Silloway Gymnsaium.

 

Keene State's Stephanie D'Annolfo led the Owls with 12 points while Sandi Purcell and Lydia Vital tallied 11 and nine points, respectively. Amanda Petrow registered seven points and seven rebounds throughout the contest.

 

For Worcester State, sophomore Kaitlyn Berkel notched a season-high 15 points while grabbing five rebounds to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Brianna Hackett and Kate Surprenant collected nine and seven points, respectively.

 

The Owls never trailed throughout the contest as they jumped off to a quick start outscoring the Lancers 18-7 in the first quarter. Worcester State countered in the second period, scoring 14 while they held the Owls to just seven.

 

Following a 25-21 halftime score, the Owls doubled the Lancers' scoring in the third quarter with 24 points. They then held the momentum into the final period and came away with the 68-46 win.

 

The two teams will face each other again on Tuesday (Dec. 6) as Worcester State will travel to Keene for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
