Sweeney Named to New England Women’s Basketball Association Weekly Honor Roll

WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore guard Catherine Sweeney (Lowell, Mass.) of the Worcester State University women's basketball team was recognized by the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) as she was named to the NEWBA honor roll.

 

Sweeney turned in double-double averages of 11.5 rebounds and 10 assists with 8.5 points per game in a 1-1 week for Worcester State. She finished one assist shy of a triple-double in the Lancers' 73-48 win over Nichols on Thursday, as she recorded 13 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists and six steals, while shooting 50% from the field. In a 56-45 setback to Springfield on Saturday, she registered her second double-double of the week with 12 rebounds and 11 assists to go with four points, two blocks and one steal. 

 

She presently is the team-leader in rebounds per game (9.6), assists per game (5.4), and steals per game (2.6) for the Lancers.  She also currently leads the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) in defensive rebounds (70), assists (49), and steals (23).

 

Next up, the women's basketball team heads to Birmingham, Alabama to face Birmingham Southern in a 2 p.m. tilt on Thursday, December 28.
