Sweeney Named to D3hoops.com Women’s Basketball Team of the Week

WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University's sophomore guard Catherine Sweeney (Lowell, Mass.) has been named to the D3hoops.com women's basketball team of the week following an exceptional week on the court from the 5'10" guard.

Sweeney capped off a 1-2 week for the Lancers with a triple-double of 13 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists with three blocks and a steal in a 63-52 win over MCLA on Saturday. Earlier in the week, Sweeney put up six points with 15 rebounds, four steals and three assists against one of the top teams in the country, Tufts, and chipped in five points with 10 rebounds and six assists in the setback to Framingham State.

Overall this week, Sweeney averaged eight points, 12.7 rebounds, 6.7 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.3 blocks. She shot 60% (9-15) from the field and 75% (6-8) from the charity stripe.

Sweeney is not only leading her team in numerous categories, but is also leading the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) in defensive rebounds (116), rebounds per game (10.4), and assists (78). She currently is averaging 6.5 points per game on an average 29.8 minutes played.

The women's basketball team resumes play on Saturday (Jan. 20) when they host Fitchburg State in a 1 p.m. MASCAC tilt.
