WORCESTER, Mass. - Worcester State University women’s basketball will host its 11th Annual Math Madness game next Monday, January 14 as the Lancers host Nichols College in non-conference action at John P. Brissette Court. Tip-off is slated for 12 p.m.
Eight hundred students, ranging from kindergarten through eighth grade and representing at least six area elementary and middle schools, are expected to be in attendance for the game.
The annual event brings area school children onto Worcester State’s campus for what, for many, is their first live college basketball game. Each student is given a packet of basketball-centered math problems to complete over the course of the game, with question on scores, court dimensions, player statistics, and more.
At the game’s conclusion, attendees will get a chance to meet the players from both teams, as both the Lancers and the Bison will be signing autographs.
“The Math Madness game has become such a great tradition for Worcester State women’s basketball,” said Lancer head coach Karen Tessmer. “It really is something special to see so many local kids get excited about both basketball and math.”
