POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Worcester State University women's basketball team was taken down 81-54 by Vassar College in the championship of Vassar's Hochberg Family Tip-Off Tournament.

With the loss, Worcester State falls to 3-2 overall on the season.

Vassar came out firing in the first quarter, and never looked back as they cruised to the win. The Brewers shot 50 percent (8-for-16) in the first to take a sizeable 22-11 lead after one period of play.

The second quarter proved to be more of the same as the hosts expanded their lead to 39-23 by the time the horn sounded for halftime. The Brewers hit three triples in the second quarter to push their lead to 16. Lancer senior Mya Mosley (Worcester, Mass.) led the visitors with seven first half points.

After the break, sophomore Sarah Blomgren (Lunenberg, Mass.) hit a three on the first possession of the half to get the Lancers off to a strong start, but her team would struggle to make a timely stop in the quarter as the Brewers stretched the contest even further out of reach. Worcester State hit a trio of shots from distance in the quarter, but Vassar was a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc in the quarter to take a 64-40 lead into the fourth.

Vassar outscored the Lancers 17-14 in the fourth to close out the victory.

Mosley was Worcester's leading scorer on the afternoon with Mosley, who also had a game-high nine boards. Blomgren chipped in a dozen points of her own for the Lancers. Junior Colleen Cutting (Auburn, Mass.) was named to the All-Tournament Team after posting nine points, three assists, three steals, and three boards.

Worcester State will be back in action with a Tuesday evening road trip to Western New England University. Tipoff between the Lancers and Golden Bears is scheduled for 6 p.m.
