SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Catherine Sweeney (Lowell, Mass.), a senior on the Worcester State University women's basketball team, has been named to the New England Women's Basketball Association Weekly Honor Roll. The announcement came from the association Thursday evening.
Sweeney had a solid game across the board as the Lancers defeated Springfield College 55-48 to close out the fall semester last Tuesday night. Sweeney scored just six points, but added 14 rebounds, six steals, five assists, and three blocks in the victory.
Sweeney is the first Lancer to receive recognition from the NEWBA this season. She is one of two players representing the MASCAC, joining Framingham State guard Emily Velozo.
The Lancers will return to action after the holiday break with a road trip to Saint Joseph's College (Me.) on January 7. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
