Worcester State Women’s Golf Team Tees off Inaugural Season this Weekend

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester State University athletic department has added its 20th varsity team, women's golf, to the list of offerings this past week.

"We are excited to activate our women's golf team," stated Worcester State's Director of Athletics, Michael Mudd.  "These young women are pioneers for the Lancers Athletic Department.  In the future they will be able to look back at their time spent as a student-athlete at Worcester State and realize that they were an important piece of the history of Lancer athletics."

The team will tee off the inaugural season this Saturday, October 21st at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) golf tournament, to be held at Captains Course on Cape Cod.

This is the first season that the non-profit organization, NEIGA, is incorporating women's golf teams into this event. Worcester State's head coach Mark Gurski commented on the upcoming weekend's tournament, "It is very exciting for us to have the opportunity to represent the Lancers on this large of a scale." It is the largest gathering of Division I, II, and III schools competing in the same event on a 36-hole layout.
