Five Named To All-MASCAC Women's Lacrosse Team

Buzzards Bay, MA --- Sophomores Angela Grassetti (Feeding Hills, MA), Jaclyn Lawlor (Westford, MA) and Molly Kilday (Westford, MA) along with freshman classmates Jackie Connors (Ashland, MA) and Katelyn Murphy (Billerica, MA) have been tabbed to the All-MASCAC Women's Lacrosse team as announced by league publicist Jim Seavey in a vote by the leagues seven head coaches.

Connors and Grassetti earned first-team distinctions while Kilday, Lawlor and Murphy were all honored on the second-team.

The five underclassmen have been instrumental in leading the Lancers to an overall mark of 12-4 – to tie the school record for wins in a season – and 4-2 in MASCAC play. All have also played key roles in helping the squad post a nine-win turnaround which ties an NCAA Division III record that was set by SUNY Oneonta during the 2012 season.

Connors has enjoyed a tremendous first-year campaign in the midfield as she has registered 43 goals and handed out 22 assists for a team-leading 65 points. Her assists are tied for third in the MASCAC while her points are fourth and total markers are sixth in the league.

The rookie has also made her presence known in the defensive zone as Connors has set school records for ground balls (57) and caused turnovers (23) and her draw controls are the third-highest total in program history (44). Those totals are also fourth, fifth and sixth in the conference, respectively.

Connors is just 10 helpers shy of tying the program mark as her total is the fifth-most ever.

Grassetti has helped anchor a back-line that set the team record for ground balls in a season (466) and that is just five off equaling the caused turnovers standard (150). The second-year defender is ninth in the MASCAC in ground balls (48) and her 28 draws were tied for 14th.

As one of the most consistent attackers in the MASCAC, Kilday put up tremendous numbers in her first season with the Blue and Gold as she leads the team with 45 goals and she is second in points (61).

Among conference leaders, Kilday is fifth in markers, sixth in assists and her 16 helpers are tied for 10th. She is also 11-for-18 at the free position line to tie the second-most tallies at the eight-meter mark in the league.

Lawlor, who earned second-team All-NEWLA laurels as a freshman midfielder last year, played a key role in helping the squad run its offense. She has aided the team in its efforts to net 221 goals this season as the mark is currently the second-highest sum in the MASCAC and the second-most markers in club history.

In addition to moving into 10th on WSU's all-time scoring list, Lawlor also finished her season tied for 10th in the MASCAC in assists (16), 12th in ground balls (41) and 17th in points (36).

Murphy helped round out a solid defensive unit that limited opponents to convert 62 percent of their clears on the season. With 23 caused turnovers, she is actually tied with Connors for the current program standard and the fifth-highest total in the conference and her 47 ground balls are eighth in the league.

Connors and Kilday also joined former standout Ann Clark as the only student-athletes to score 50 points in their first season while wearing a Lancer uniform.

Under the guidance of seventh-year head coach Deb Draper, third-seeded Worcester State heads to #2 Westfield State for a 7 PM matchup later today in the MASCAC Semifinals. The winner will play the victor of the matchup that pits #4 Fitchburg State at top-seed Bridgewater State on Saturday for all the marbles.
