Sophomores Spark Women's Lacrosse In Victory Over Framingham State

Worcester, MA --- Sophomore classmates Kaila Chase (Northbridge, MA) and Jackie Connors (Ashland, MA) registered five goals apiece to help lead Worcester State past Framingham State, 18-3, in MASCAC women's lacrosse action this evening at Coughlin Field.

With their five markers both Chase and Connors tied career-highs. Chase also added three assists to finish with eight points while Connors chipped in with a pair of helpers for seven points.

The Lancers (7-3, 2-1 MASCAC) jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the first 11 minutes of the game. Chase potted the first three as Connors also had a trio of markers during the spurt and freshman Alaina Martin (E. Longmeadow, MA) and sophomore Katelyn Murphy (Billerica, MA) rounded out the scoring.

The Rams (2-10, 1-3 MASCAC) got on the board at the 16:08 mark when junior Nicole L'Heureux (Dracut, MA) found the back of the net with her team leading tenth tally of the year making the score 8-1.

Connors and Chase each added scores 29 seconds apart to push the score to 10-1 with 8:51 remaining in the half.

Worcester State wasted little time opening the scoring in the second half as junior Angela Grassetti (Feeding Hills, MA) fired one home just one minute into the stanza to hit running time and give the Lancers a ten-goal advantage.

Grassetti registered another score at the 19:49 mark to give the hosts a commanding 16-1 lead, but Framingham State answered scoring two in a row to cut into the deficit.

Freshman Marissa Burns (Woburn, MA) put one between the pipes at the 18:44 mark and L'Heureux recorded her second goal of the game at the 14:06 mark for the visitors.

The Blue and Gold added a pair of late scores from junior Michelle Tully (Tewksbury, MA) and Connors to wrap up the game.

Murphy finished the contest with a career-high seven ground balls while Chase, junior Molly Kilday (Westford, MA), and senior Amy Tucker (N. Attleboro, MA) all added three for the Lancers.

Kilday also corralled a trio of draw controls joining Connors, Grassetti, and freshman Angelina Sutherland (Tyngsboro, MA) to pace the team.

Freshman teammates Tori Lane (West Newbury, MA), Lindsay Albert (Tyngsboro, MA) and senior Marissa Canfield (Billerica, MA) all had three ground balls for the Rams.

WSU freshman net-minder Lea Robichaud (Holden, MA) stopped two shots over the first 30 minutes to improve to 7-3 on the season before being lifted for classmate Krissy Pessa (Walpole, MA) who registered four second half saves.

Framingham State sophomore Alysha Cericola (Waltham, MA) recorded six stops and saw her record fall to 2-6 with the loss.

Worcester State returns to action Saturday when they travel to Mass.-Maritime for a 1 PM affair and the Rams host to Emmanuel on Thursday for a 4:30 PM contest.
