Bridgewater, MA --- Paced by junior tournament MVP Taylor Clancy's (Braintree, MA) six goals, top-seeded Bridgewater State defeated #2Worcester State 19-7 in the MASCAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament championship this afternoon at Swenson Field.

With the win, the Bears (14-5) will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Lancers (12-4) await word on a possible ECAC Division III Tournament berth on Monday.

BSU was also led by freshman Melissa Renauld (Framingham, MA) who collected eight points on five markers while junior Riley Cachelin (Westwood, MA) and sophomore Lauren Geary (Hull, MA) both notched hat-tricks. Geary also grabbed a game-best eight draw controls to help the hosts lead the category, 16-12.

Junior Molly Kilday (Westford, MA), sophomore Kaila Chase (Northbridge, MA) and freshman Alaina Martin (E. Longmeadow, MA) all registered two markers apiece for the Blue and Gold in the setback.

Junior Angela Grassetti (Agawam, MA) had a team-high three ground balls as sophomore Jackie Connors (Ashland, MA) and freshman Angelina Sutherland (Tyngsboro, MA) combined for six draws.

Over the first 10 minutes of the opening stanza, Bridgewater State claimed the early 6-2 advantage with Clancy sending in the final two markers with eight-meter shots.

Martin and Grasetti potted goals to help the visitors get within three points at the 14:29 mark, but the Bears closed out the frame with an 8-1 run as Clancy and Renauld both chipped in with two tallies and an assist in the outburst.

With running time on their side in the second stanza, the hosts outscored their opponents 4-2 in the second period as Chase netted both goals for WSU.

Bridgewater State sophomore goalie Chandler Ross (Wrentham, MA) turned aside 12 shots to improve her record to 6-2. Freshman Lea Robichaud (Holden, MA) collected seven saves in the loss as she drops to 12-4 overall.

BSU outshot their opponents 30-24 (21-13 in first half) while also holding the 14-11 margin in ground balls. The Bears were also six-for-eight from the free possession line with five goals coming in the opening stanza.

With her total today, Kilday moves into eighth on the all-time scoring list (82 goals – 22 assists – 104 points), just one point away from senior teammate Vicki O'Brien's (Canton, MA) total of 105.
