Kilday Helps Pace Women's Lacrosse In Season Opening Win Against Rivier

 

Worcester, MA --- Senior Molly Kilday (Westford, MA) matched a career high with seven points on four goals and three assists to help pace Worcester State to a 18-3 victory over Rivier in non-conference women's lacrosse action this evening at Coughlin Field.

The Lancers (1-0) were also highlighted by junior Kaila Chase (Northboro, MA) and sophomore Angelina Sutherland (Tyngsboro, MA) who both contributed two tallies and a pair of helpers.

Junior Amanda Pruyn (Tyngsboro, MA), sophomore Alaina Martin (E. Longmeadow, MA) and freshman Alexis Vecchiarelli (Agawam, MA) all potted a duo of goals each.

Defensively, senior Angela Grassetti (Feeding Hills, MA) distinguished herself with four ground balls and four draws as junior Jackie Connors (Ashland, MA) grabbed a game-best six draw controls and she picked up a trio of balls off the ground.

The Raiders (0-2) were led by sophomore Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, MA) potted two of the three markers for the visitors as she added five ground balls. Freshman Taylor Linkras (Tewksbury, MA) had the other tally with a team-high four draws.

Freshman Chelsie Hubiczak-Muldowney (Windham, NH) recorded a squad high four ground balls for Rivier.

Six different Lancers started off the contest with goals as the hosts opened up the contest with a 7-0 run over the first 18 minutes.

Linkras and Wickens sandwiched markers between an eight-meter tally by Sutherland to trail by six at the 9:08 mark, but then WSU ended the period with a five goal outburst for the comfortable double-digit advantage at the intermission.

Kilday ignited the rally with her third goal of the contest and then she added two more helpers in the outburst to finish off the first stanza.

The Blue and Gold closed out the game with a 5-1 spurt. Chase had two goals to underscore four Worcester State players in the final surge for the hosts.

Sophomore Lea Robichaud (Holden, MA) turned aside two shots in her first victory of the season as she went the first 48:13 before giving way to classmate Krissy Pessa (Walpole, MA) who was not called upon to make a save in the final 11:47 minutes of play.

Rivier senior Mackenzie Flagg (Shirley, MA) collected eight saves while her record drops to 0-2 on the campaign.

Worcester State will play Eastern Connecticut on Saturday while the Raiders look for their first win when they host New England College on Friday at 4 PM.
