Women's Lacrosse Opens Florida Trip With 20-10 Win Over Hope

Clearwater, FL --- Junior Jackie Connors (Ashland, MA) had a great all-around game with four goals, five ground balls and seven draw controls to help propel Worcester State to a 20-10 triumph over Hope at Glen Brook Park on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lancers (4-0) were also paced by junior Kaila Chase (Northbridge, MA) finished with seven points on five tallies and two helpers. Defensively, junior Mackenzie Callini (W. Springfield, MA) and classmate Katelyn Murphy (Billerica, MA), combined for nine ground balls while both forced four miscues each.

For Hope (0-3), freshman Grace Ahlgrim (Libertyville, IL) registered a hat-trick as senior Molly Greenfield (Georgetown, TX) potted two goals. Junior Linnea Ridlen (Webster Springs, IL) and first-year Aime Hixon (Eagle, CO) both notched four ground balls.

Worcester State started off the contest with a 5-2 spurt over the first 15 minutes of the game as Chase was the spark plug sending in three of them.

The Lancers then registered four consecutive tallies before Greenfield and freshman Dana Kym (Libertyville, IL) added scores for 10-4 advantage at the break.

Five different goal scorers found the back of the net to help the Blue and Gold take over the 15-6 edge at the 18:56 mark of the second period. Connors and senior Angela Grassetti (Agawam, MA) both had one goal and an assist in the run.

Both squads went goal for goal the rest of the way as freshman Alexis Vecchiarelli (Agawam, MA) chipped in with two markers for WSU.

Sophomore Lea Robichaud (Holden, MA) collected seven saves while freshman Michaela Bienger (Hillsdale, MI) turned aside 13 attempts on goal

Worcester State led in shots (36-22), ground balls (40-32) and draws (19-12, 12-5 in second). The Lancers were also effective on clears (17-for-22).
