Martin, Kilday, Chase Pace Women's Lacrosse In Win Over Rhode Island College

 

Worcester, MA --- Junior Alaina Martin (E. Longmeadow, MA), senior Molly Kilday (Westford, MA) and junior Kaila Chase (Northbridge, MA) all registered six points each as they helped pace Worcester State to a 21-4 triumph over Rhode Island College in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Coughlin Field this evening.

For the Lancers (8-3), Kilday potted a game-best four goals while Martin and Chase both collected hat-tricks and three assists each.

Martin was also a force defensively with three ground balls and two caused turnovers while senior Jackie Lawlor (Westford, MA) dished out a pair of helpers and she recorded a match-high five draws.

Senior Danielle Landon (Wading River, NY) led the Anchorwomen (0-7) with two markers as classmate Jessica Ricci (Hope, RI) contributed three assists. Freshman Toni Montanaro (Cranston, RI/West) added five ground balls.

Freshman Allison Smedberg (Cranston, RI/West), sophomore Betsey Heidel (Warwick, RI) and Landon all logged four draws for the visitors.

Martin, Chase and Kilday all notched two goals each to help the hosts open the contest with an 11-1 run to put the game into running time. Goals by freshman Mackenzie Little (Marlboro, MA) and junior Amanda Pruyn (Tyngsboro, MA) underscored the next six tallies for the Lancers who built up a solid lead at the intermission.

The Blue and Gold then doubled up their opponents 4-2 in the second period for the final score. Junior Mackenzie Callini (W. Springfield, MA), sophomore Chloe Anderson (Williamstown, MA) and freshman Alexa Harvey (Attleboro, MA) all found the back of the net for their first career markers in the final stanza to highlight the scoring for WSU.

Sophomore Lea Robichaud (Holden, MA) turned aside three shots in 30 minutes of action as she saw her record move to 8-2 overall. Classmate Krissy Pessa (Walpole, MA) was called upon to make one save as she finished the second half for the hosts.

Freshman net minder Alasondra Apici (Providence, RI/Classical) rejected five attempts on net and she ended her night with a trio of ground balls between the pipes.

Worcester State held the slim 14-13 edge in draw controls while also leading in ground balls (30-18).

Both squads return their attention to their respective league slates on Saturday on the road. The Lancers travel east to take on Framingham State at 1 PM while Rhode Island College faces off against Keene State at high noon.
