Connors, Vecchiarelli Help Women's Lacrosse Clip MCLA, 20-6

 

North Adams, MA --- Junior Jackie Connors (Ashland, MA) tied a season high with four goals and freshman Alexis Vecchiarelli (Agawam, MA) netted a hat-trick as the pair helped lead Worcester State to a 20-6 triumph over host MCLA in MASCAC women's lacrosse action this evening.

In the victory the Lancers improve to 10-3 (3-1 MASCAC) while the Trailblazers fell to 3-7 (0-5 MASCAC) in the loss.

Other multiple goal scorers for the Blue and Gold included junior Amanda Pruyn (Tyngsboro, MA), sophomore Alaina Martin (E. Longmeadow, MA) and freshman Erin Moloney (Mahopac, NY) while Martin registered a pair of assists.

Junior Katelyn Murphy (Billerica, MA) had a stellar game defensively with three ground balls, three draws and a trio of caused turnovers. Senior Angela Grassetti (Feeding Hills, MA) also added a campaign-best seven draw controls and two forced miscues.

MCLA sophomore Natalie Caney (Belchertown, MA) paced her club with two markers, a duo of helpers and five draws as junior Kaitlyn Brown (Adams, MA) found the back of the net twice.

Worcester State jumped on the board with the early 6-2 advantage at the 17:14 mark as Martin scored twice for the visitors.

Two markers by Caney and Brown sandwiched three Lancer goals in a span of seven minutes as the Blue and Gold took over the 10-3 margin with 10:00 to go in the opening period.

WSU closed out the first period with a 6-1 spurt to put the game into running time as Connors netted four of the last five goals for the 16-4 lead at the intermission.

Worcester State outscored their opponents 5-2 in the final stanza to seal up the win.

Sophomore Lea Robichaud (Holden, MA) improved her record to 10-3 in the victory as she turned aside two saves in 30 minutes of action before giving way to classmate Krissy Pessa (Walpole, MA), who logged one save in the second half.

Sophomore Alexandria David (Lowell, MA) stopped 10 attempts on the net for the Trailblazers in the loss.

The Lancers led in shots on goal (30-9), ground balls (15-7) and draw controls (16-12). WSU also nailed five of their eight bids on free position shots.

Worcester State will host Gordon on Thursday at 7 PM before taking on Fitchburg State in a key MASCAC game on Saturday at 1 o'clock. MCLA heads to Westfield State for a 1 PM affair on Saturday.
