Martin Scores 100th Career Goal in Lancers’ 13-10 Loss to St. Joseph’s (L.I.)

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Worcester State University's senior attacker, Alaina Martin (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) scored her 100th career goal Sunday morning in the Lancers' 13-10 loss to St. Joseph's (L.I.).

 

Both Martin and Angelina Sutherland (Tewksbury, Mass.) racked up four points apiece in the contest. Martin registered two goals and two assists, while Sutherland tallied three goals, and assist, and led the team with four draw controls and four ground balls.

 

Guiding the Golden Eagles was Nicole Stoppelli with five goals and two assists. Brooke Kreuscher and Lauryn Gregson chipped in three and two, respectively.

 

After back-and-forth goals from each team in the first half, Worcester State went on a 3-0 run on goals from Mackenzie Little (Marlboro, Mass.) and Alexis Vecchiarelli (Agawam, Mass.), holding a 4-2 advantage over the Golden Eagles. However, St. Joseph's (L.I.) closed out the half with three unanswered goals from Stopelli (2) and Kristin Carroll to go into the half ahead 5-4.

 

The second half saw three ties, however, the Golden Eagles concluded the game with three consecutive goals from Kreuscher (2) and Stopelli to result in the 13-10 win for St. Joseph's.

 

Worcester State's Krissy Pessa (Walpole, Mass.) took the loss in a 13-save performance, while St. Joseph's Lindsay Ramos earned the win, stopping 10-of-20 shots on goal.

 

The Lancers will reside in Hilton Head, S.C. for the upcoming week and will take on Allegheny on Wednesday, March 22.
